So many beautiful dresses, so many decisions!
How will you ever be able to narrow down the options?
A good rule of thumb to adhere to is: dress to suit your shape. So what is your shape?
There are four common shapes, the most common figure shape is a pear, larger on the
bottom and smaller on the top. There are so many gorgeous dresses that accommodate
to this particular shape.
Up next is the apple, if you think of an apple it is larger on the top (shoulders and/or
breasts) and smaller on the bottom. Basically, the opposite of the pear shape.
The ruler (otherwise known as the banana) is the third body shape, the proportions of
the top and bottom half are similar to one another, as well as the middle portion.
The last and most desirable, according to society’s standards, is the hourglass shape.
Similar proportions on the top and bottom, with a smaller, defined waist. If you choose
your dress according to our guide, you’ll be able to obtain an hourglass silhouette.
Of course, you must always take into account your height, as this has a bearing on
whether certain styles will suit your frame.
Dresses to suit pear shapes:
A-line wedding dresses are your best friend! If you’re a fan of the princess
look, you’re in luck! Ball gowns are perfect for your figure shape! Definition
of the bodice will also be of benefit, to contrast the bottom half. Empire

flattering. Avoid tiered, trumpet and mermaid style dresses which draw
attention to your bottom. Sheaths can at times be unflattering.

Interestingly, the same style dresses that suit the opposite body shape also
suit pear shapes. A-lines, V necks & Empire lines. The reason once again is
the contrast. The bottom half is smoothed while emphasis is put on the top
half. Stay away from princess line and sheath dresses.
Dresses to suit ruler shapes:
Sheath gowns or any fitted gown suit this figure shape beautifully. There
is nothing to hide so flaunt it! Fitted gowns with a high neckline also look
elegant on this body shape Any dress style that gives you a waist with a
closer fitting skirt for the illusion of more curves and you’re on track! Try
to avoid styles with a straight neckline if you have very broad shoulders.
