Redcliffe Jetty Markets to Change Hands
Goodwill Projects Pty Ltd, the company behind the successful Brisbane
City Markets, Milton Markets, and Kuraby, Carseldine and Nundah
Markets, has successfully tendered to Council to operate the Redcliffe
Jetty Markets.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the company’s
impressive bid and proven track record delivering successful markets around
southeast Queensland gave it the winning edge.
“We received a number of quality responses to the market tender and council officers
assessed these against the criteria for evaluation as advertised. Officers made a
recommendation to council which was accepted and supported unanimously,”
he said.
“Goodwill Projects has over 13 years’ experience operating markets in southeast
Queensland and submitted a professional, thorough, well-evidenced and
creative response.
“Council looks forward to the continuing success of the weekly markets under
the management of Goodwill Projects, attracting locals and visitors alike to the
beautiful Redcliffe Peninsula.
“The social and economic benefits of facilitating events like the Redcliffe Jetty
Markets cannot be understated, especially to businesses doing weekend trade along
the Peninsula.
“This is a commercial decision about the future of the markets, which will attract
even more visitors and continue to bring locals together on weekends.”
Goodwill Projects is incorporating a program to foster local and emerging vendors
to the market, as well as attracting well known and established traders from
around southeast Queensland.
The Management Agreement with the current operator is due to expire at the end
of September 2019.
Mema (Market and Events Management Australia) (Previous operator’s) remarks:
It is with a heavy heart today that we announce some devastating news!
The Moreton Bay Regional Council has informed us that they have chosen after 10 years of ever-growing success that we have
created, they will not be extending our contract to operate the Redcliffe Jetty Markets as it currently exists. Instead they have
chosen to give the contract to a company outside of the Redcliffe area. Our Involvement in operations and the Redcliffe Jetty
Markets will come to a close at the end of September 2019.
From our beginnings in 2009 taking over the management of a very small market in the Anzac Place Parklands we have had a
vision to create an iconic ‘must do’ event for Redcliffe and the Moreton Bay Region. From this humble beginning we have been
passionate and professional on delivering our vision which saw us navigate through the effects of The Global Financial Crisis,
The massive Street Scaping project along the Redcliffe foreshore and the constant influx of other venues trying to capitalize on
what we had grown to deliver being Australia’s Premier Seaside Market. We’re currently the number one weekly tourist event in
not only the Peninsula but the South East Region. This is something we’re extremely proud of.
Through strong leadership and meticulous design, we have helped establish other micro businesses well into the thousands.
As well as the traditional bricks and mortar shopfronts we see in the area today. This has not only benefited those businesses
but has seen the foreshore flourish with the Parade re-opening previously closed establishments. This has given the Moreton
Bay Region the opportunity to boast one of the biggest weekly events operating in the South East. We can also proudly state
that the Redcliffe Jetty Markets have been a driving force behind the ever-increasing tourism trade for the region that has now
garnished recognition via mainstream media outlets and business achievement awards throughout the country and deliver
annually over 300, 000 visitors to the region.
We have always given back to the community that supports us through our community benefit program. Throughout this
program we have been able to give back well in excess of $300,000 to charitable and community organisations, such as
‘The Queensland Cancer Council, Local Schools such as Scarborough State School and Redcliffe High school, Rocking 4 The
Homeless, Surf Life Savers and many, many more’.
Words are hard to find at this current moment however, we would like to thank everyone that has been involved or supported
our vision from day one. This includes all our vendors, staff, musicians, volunteers and sub-contractors.
We have always tried to maintain integrity and professionalism when making our decisions with the
best interest of the market at the forefront of our minds. We hope this is reflected by the growth of what
we have developed and maintained over such an extended period of time.
From the bottom of all our hearts again, thank you to all the stallholders and public that have
supported our efforts.
Sincerely Matthew, Ramesh and the MEMA Team.
