2019 FEDERAL ELECTION: MEET THE CANDIDATES
The communities that form the electorate of Dickson are great places to live and raise a family. My wife Kirilly
and I have made our home here and I’m the proud dad of three – Rebecca, Harry and Tom.
My family’s ties to Pine Rivers go back over a hundred years, I grew up in Brisbane’s north, went to school at St
Pauls at Bald Hills and eventually went into business locally.
Before that I served nine years in the Queensland Police working in the Drug Squad, the Sex Offenders Squad
and at the National Crime Authority.
Through those years I completed a business degree and maintained an interest in small business eventually
building a successful small business employing 40 people.
My experiences in both jobs motivated me to run for public office. I saw the best and worst of human nature
in one and then how ‘big’ government can impact businesses in the other.
I ran for Federal Parliament in 2001 and have had the honour of representing Dickson since then, serving as a
Minister under John Howard and now as Home Affairs Minister.
Peter Dutton I believe I’ve been able to make a difference – for our local communities and to the security and prosperity of
our nation.
Ali France is a mum of two boys, a qualified journalist and works in a Northside palliative healthcare service. Ali
understands the things that affect Dickson locals. She is passionate about education, health and community
services.
In 2011, Ali was a pedestrian involved in a car accident. She has since gone on to become a world champion
outrigger canoeist, holding three world titles, and is a passionate advocate for people with disabilities.
Ali has the strength and determination to stand up and fight for Dickson.
Already Ali has secured $120 million for a new University campus in Petrie and a $30 million Specialist Care
Centre for Pine Rivers. Ali and the northside Labor team are committed to a $1.5 billion upgrade to the Pacific
Motorway/Bruce Highway merge up to Dohles Rocks Rd including $100 million to start works for the Linkfield
Road Overpass duplication.
Ali & Labor will deliver an extra $16.66 million to local schools over 3 years.
Ali France Ali is focussed on what matters to the people of Dickson - funding for education, healthcare and local
infrastructure, and creating good, secure jobs.
Hi, I’m Benna. I’m a father, a fiance, a muso, history buff, and an international business and human rights lawyer,
and now your Australian Greens candidate for the seat of Dickson.
Throughout my career I have represented a wide range of communities from around our country: the old, the
young, those from the city and those from the bush.
I have taken on the big companies to protect the rights of Australians. I have fought for Queenslanders to
protect their properties, fought hard for the rights of children in the education system, and stood up for entire
communities whose land had been polluted by toxic pollution.
I’m here to reinvigorate the concept of ‘fair go’ and protect the rights of us all. I’m here to give a voice to you,
and to stand up for a future for all of us.
I am standing with the Australian Greens; we are the only party fighting for positive economic and social
Benedict Coyne change, that benefits you and your community. And are the only party thinking about our kids’ future, and
their kids’ future, as well as the here and now.
I’ve lived in Dickson since 2003. I’m married with 4 children. I’ve worked in the public & private sectors and run
my own businesses. I was an Australian snowboarding pioneer. I’m currently a Business Analyst.
Professionally my role is to analyse complex systems, find the defects and suggest improvements. I’ve analysed
our system of democracy, identified the defects and opportunities for improvement to fix what is not working.
I say elected representatives should be legally required represent what the majority in the electorate want.
Not what the representative, party or donors want. I’ve legally committed to do this by signing a statutory
declaration.
Over the next 3 years we plan to build on the ground networks of community & policy representatives
supported by the VoteWrap web app to create the mechanism to inform the member for Dickson how we
want them to vote.
