M VEMBERVEMBER
Since 2003 Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s
health projects around the world, challenging the status quo,
shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way
health services reach and support men.
Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average six
years earlier than women, and for largely preventable
reasons. Prostate cancer rates will double over the next
fifteen years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled
in the last fifty years. And across the world, one man
dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males
accounting for 60% of all suicides.
1 IN 6 AUSTRALIAN MEN WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH PROSTATE CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME.
In Australia, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.
TESTICULAR CANCER STRIKES YOUNG. IT’S THE MOST COMMON CANCER IN YOUNG AUSTRALIAN MEN.
Testicular cancer has a 95% survival rate. But that’s of no comfort to the 1 man in 20 who doesn’t make it.
GLOBALLY, ON AVERAGE, 1 MAN DIES BY SUICIDE EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.
Around the world, the rate of male suicide is alarmingly high: 6 out of 10 suicides are men.
